Bunkers para todos

No meu artigo para a revista Oeste desta semana eu escrevi sobre bunkers. Essas construções subterrâneas, à prova de tudo, antigamente eram de uso exclusivamente militar.

Hoje essa situação mudou. Bilionários estão construindo bunkers de luxo para o caso de alguma catástrofe. Que pode ser de vários tipos - uma guerra nuclear, o choque de um asteroide, uma nova ameaça biológica como foi a Covid ou o descontrole da inteligência artificial.

Por outro lado, temos sua popularização em comunidades de bunkers ou mesmo iniciativas individuais. Estamos caminhando para uma situação em que todo mundo vai aspirar a ter seu próprio bunker, como desejava ter seu carro. A humanidade poderia trabalhar mais para evitar que algumas dessas catástrofes acontecessem. Mas ficou mais fácil abrir um buraco e construir uma casa dentro dele.

Bunkers for All

In my article for Oeste magazine this week, I wrote about bunkers. These underground, indestructible structures were formerly used exclusively by the military.

Today, that situation has changed. Billionaires are building luxury bunkers in case of a catastrophe. This could be of several types – a nuclear war, an asteroid impact, a new biological threat like Covid, or the uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence.

On the other hand, we are seeing their popularization in bunker communities or even individual initiatives. We are moving towards a situation where everyone will aspire to have their own bunker, just as they once aspired to own a car. Humanity could work harder to prevent some of these catastrophes from happening. But it has become easier to dig a hole and build a house inside it.
