IA é esperança para o cinema brasileiro

Eu já fiz cinema no Brasil como roteirista. E apesar do trabalho duro e dedicado, colhi muito mais frustrações do que sucessos. Sempre me assustou a burocracia envolvida, a dificuldade de ter um projeto, arrumar financiamento, produzir o filme e partir para o próximo. Tudo aqui é envolto em editais indecifráveis. Ultimamente a situação piorou, com o aparelhamento ideológico dominando toda a cadeia de produção.

Por isso foi uma alegria cobrir o WAIFF, o primeiro festival brasileiro de cinema produzido com Inteligência Artificial. Ali não tem edital, não tem controle nem a necessidade de gastar uma fortuna. Basta talento e um computador com aplicativos de IA. Passei praticamente todo o festival assistindo aos filmes. Alguns são meio toscos, mas quando os artistas acertam, fazem produtos que podem ir tranquilamente para o mercado internacional em condições de igualdade.

O primeiro WAIFF é o tema do meu artigo desta semana para a Revista Oeste. Inclui muitas ilustrações e vários curtas. Eu saí do festival impressionado - e com vontade de voltar ao audiovisual.

AI is Hope for Brazilian Cinema

I've worked in filmmaking in Brazil as a screenwriter. And despite the hard and dedicated work, I experienced far more frustration than success. I was always intimidated by the bureaucracy involved, the difficulty of having a project, securing funding, producing the film, and moving on to the next one. Everything here is shrouded in indecipherable grant applications. Lately, the situation has worsened, with ideological manipulation dominating the entire production chain.

That's why it was a joy to cover WAIFF, the first Brazilian film festival produced with Artificial Intelligence. There are no grant applications, no controls, and no need to spend a fortune. All it takes is talent and a computer with AI applications. I spent practically the entire festival watching the films. Some are a bit rough, but when the artists get it right, they create products that can easily go to the international market on equal footing.

The first WAIFF is the subject of my article this week for Revista Oeste. (In Portuguese, for subscribers). It includes many illustrations and several short films. I left the festival impressed - and wanting to return to audiovisual production.
